Bert started piano lessons at the age of three and has always had a passion for the instrument. He spent five years as a chorister in the Norwich Cathedral Choir and has been a singer ever since. Learning to play the organ seemed a natural progression and, under Kenneth Ryderís stewardship, he was soon Organist of Trinity United Reform Church. A keen clarinettist and saxophonist, he attained performance diplomas from the ABRSM in both clarinet and organ before leaving school. In 2002, having recently begun his degree course at Goldsmiths, Bert became organist and choirmaster at St Johnís with Holy Trinity, Deptford, a post which he still holds. Around this time he began performing on guitar and teaching piano. In addition to ongoing session playing, he started to teach at Springfield Primary School in Catford, where he would later become head of music; he now teaches piano at the Wren Academy with The DaCapo Music Foundation. Bert lives in Finchley with his wife and two sons.
