‘A strong, confident and engaging performer who always gives his very best’, Arturo Serna is one of the leading Venezuelan cellists of his generation. He started his musical studies in the System of Youth and Children Orchestras of Venezuela (FESNOJIV).
At the age of 13 years, Arturo Serna performs as a soloist with the ‘Young Symphony Orchestra of the Simon Bolivar Conservatoire’, performing the Haydn Cello Concerto in C Major. Consequently, he was invited by several Venezuelan and UK Orchestras. As a prolific chamber musician, he has performed in Venezuela, USA, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, France, England, and Czech Republic.
Outstandingly gifted both technically and musically, Arturo Serna was awarded at 17 years old the Special Prize for the Youngest Contestant at the I Latin-American Cello Competition Carlos Prieto (2000), the Second Prize at the Oxford Music Festival Competition 2008, the Concordia Foundation Award and the Audience Prize at the Cavatina Chamber Music Competition 2009
In 2008 Arturo Serna finished his Diploma in Music Performance with distinction at Geneva Music Conservatoire. He also holds diplomas from the Conservatoire de Musique de Perpignan and the Conservatoire de Musique et Danse de Toulouse. Currently, he is finishing his Post-graduate studies at the Trinity College of Music. He is also studying conducting at the same institution and has been recently appointed as the Musical Director of the Highgate Brass Ensemble. As a keen teacher, Arturo Serna is part of the professorial staff of Dacapo Foundation and the Wandsworth Music Schools.
During his studies, Arturo Serna has received the kind support of the Montague-Cleeve Scholar, The Bratton Scholar, Carigest Foundation for Young Musicians, FESNOJIV, the Mozarteum Foundation of Venezuela, and Geneva Conservatoire C.N.R. de Perpignan.
In 2005, he creates Duo Teresa Carreño, giving thrilling performances in Switzerland, Venezuela, England and Germany performing within prestigious Festivals and Concerts Venues.
