Carl Herring
Carl is a Da Capo veteran, having taught with Da Capo for around 10 years. He is now a senior teacher at the Brent Cross Flagship Centre, where he runs several musicianship groups, is a mentor to other staff members and regularly provides staff training. He is also involved with Da Capo's work in schools particularly in South and West London. He visits St Anne's Primary School in Wandsworth and has been involved with the Boom Town and Street Party projects.
Carl has a strong interest in sourcing, adapting, rewording and composing new repertoire. Many of the pieces in Da Capo's forthcoming books Complete Instrumentalist 2 and Complete Instrumentalist 3, are the results of Carl's work and as such, will be completely unique to Da Capo.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, Carl is also a fine guitarist and winner of the Julian Bream Prize, who has performed worldwide. Apart from his work with flamenco guitarist Eduardo Niebla, the London Sinfonietta and the Tetra Guitar Quartet, Carl also gives solo recitals and has appeared as a concerto soloist with Northern Sinfonia. His musical tastes are very broad and have led him to work with musicians from many other musical cultures, including one close to his heart: jazz. His four albums have received excellent reviews across the board and are stocked by major retailers such as HMV.
His students' love of music inspires him to keep learning too: he is teaching himself the flute and recently obtained a distinction at grade 3!
