Fiona Gibbs began playing the violin at the age of six. Fiona expressed a keen interest in music from a very young age, attending music groups and taking piano and recorder lessons as well as singing in many choirs and performing solos both at school and county level.

At the age of twelve Fiona was offered a place at the Royal College of Music Junior Department. As well as taking full advantage of all the opportunities offered by the RCM, which included an orchestral tour to Tuscany, Fiona also continued her music commitments at The Cavendish School, Eastbourne where she was leader of the school orchestra for four years and a soloist in several concerts. This trend continued into sixth form where she became leader of the orchestra at Lewes Sixth Form College, leader of a string trio and quartet as well as singing in both the main college choir and in 'Academy Voices', the choir for more experienced singers. Whilst at Lewes, Fiona also co-led East Sussex String Chamber Orchestra and gained places in both the English Schools Orchestra and the National Youth Chamber Orchestra. Fiona toured to Poland in summer 2006 with the NYCO.

Fiona read music at King's College, London, gaining a BMus (Hons). She has just completed a Masters degree in Music, also at King’s College, London. Whilst at King’s, Fiona was a member of the first violin section of both King’s College London Symphony Orchestra and Imperial College Symphony Orchestra.

Fiona performs regularly with ‘The Gibbs Trio’, a professional ensemble specialising in Baroque and Classical repertoire. The trio consists of Fiona and her brothers, Mark and Iain. They have won numerous awards at the Eastbourne and Hastings Music Festivals and have also played at many charity and social events in London and the South East.

In the future Fiona hopes to continue to PhD level with the final intention of becoming a lecturer, free-lance professional musician and instrumental teacher.
