Jane Gillie

Jane grew up in Cambridge and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and at the Salzburg Mozarteum, majoring in both violin in London, and viola in Salzburg where she also studied baroque performance practice with Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

This was a wonderful inspiration and has directed much of her performing and teaching life.   She has spent most of this playing in orchestras ranging from Covent Garden to the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.  She was co-principal viola in the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

She has also performed Chamber Music in many different parts of the world including Japan and the United States.  She has taught violin, viola and musicianship along side her playing career and also teaches the Alexander Technique.

For the last few years she has been devoting herself to Music Education and is exploring the Dalcroze Method, the Kodaly Method and the Tonalis approach to Singing and Music Education.  She also has an Open University degree in Humanities and is happiest of all on her allotment!
