Our focus is on music-making and the enjoyment of music for life – not just on passing grades as children. We teach children to enjoy music.
The DaCapo Music Foundation is registered charity with a team of twenty-eight teachers working at our flagship Saturday Music Centre, our satellite centres, in schools and independently as music tutors.
What’s unique about the DaCapo approach?
All children are welcome. We don’t select pupils by ability.
We know people learn best when they are relaxed and having fun, so we do not pressurise children. We teach children to enjoy music.
We create a healthy and fun learning environment. We believe socialising, listening, laughing, making mistakes and sharing new ideas are all crucial to an effective learning experience.
We believe in looking after people - in the learning environment and in the way we listen to children and parents. The welfare and happiness of our students is as important to us as the content we teach.
We don’t worry about whether our students practice between lessons because we are able to skilfully guide progress even without home practice. We encourage parents to be comfortable with the idea that music-making and practice are not inextricably linked.
We prepare for performance without hierarchy. Our students are given the confidence that everyone can ‘do it’. Our ethos encourages everyone to feel good about performing.
Many former students continue to play and enjoy music after leaving DaCapo. Some go on to study music in higher education and some become professional musicians. This is fantastic, but most important to us is that our students continue to enjoy and engage with music throughout their lives.
