Liz was born in Barnsley, where she was taught violin by Roy Gerrard (who was taught by Leonard Hirsch). She went on to study at St John's College Oxford (MA Hons Classics and French), Trinity College of Music (P.G.Cert., M.Mus.) and the Poor School, where she completed the two-year acting training.
She has been a violin teacher at DaCapo since 1998 and has been involved in many of the DaCapo projects in schools and nurseries, as well as playing violin in performances of the Farmyard Suite. Her career as a professional singer with Carl Rosa Opera, Charles Court Opera, Minotaur Music Theatre and others has taken her to Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Ireland, France and all over the UK.
As a violinist she is a member of the Aspidistra Drawing Room Orchestra, and has also appeared as a fiddler on Radio 4ís Classic Serial.
Although her teaching career began at Da Capo, it has expanded a lot recently and she now has a busy schedule teaching violin and singing in a variety of different schools in North London, to individuals, small groups and whole classes, as well as running choirs and orchestras and teaching several private pupils, and she is really enjoying reaping the benefits of the many years of training she has received at DaCapo.
